Family Sewing 1

Spread the love

I enjoy sewing clothes for the kiddos. It’s very satisfying to sew something in an hour or two, start to finish. After all, I am all about instant gratification!

My first knit sew was Landon’s Altitude Pullover by Peek-a-Boo Pattern Company. It was remarkably easy to sew…although I had a watch YouTube videos on how to add the trim, the band, the collar. ha ha ha OK, maybe the first one wasn’t as easy as I’m claiming it was. I loved Landon’s pullover so much I made a second one for Flynn.

Feeling totally empowered, I proceeded to sew something for everybody. I mean everybody – family, friends, coworkers. No one was safe, everyone was getting something sewn by me. I was like Oprah – “You get a pullover, and you get a pullover, and so do you!”

I love seeing someone wearing something I made just for them. I put together the pattern. I designed what fabric to use, what coordinating fabric to use, and the placement of it all. I cut it all out. I spent hours sewing (and picking out all the mistakes! hahaha). I ironed and folded and wrapped each item with love and without ever knowing if the person would even want it! A lot of the time, I guessed sizes. Sometimes I guessed right, sometimes … nope!

I discovered how easy dresses and tunics were to sew. Again, I doled out dresses to every female I knew, and even some I didn’t know. Kids of my friends and their friends weren’t safe either.

Sewing is not a cheap hobby. You have to buy thread, needles, scissors, pins, clips, rotary cutter, and so much more – including FABRIC! This is about the same time that my obsession with fabric began. I’ve become a fabric hoarder. Truly, I have more fabric than I could sew in a year. And yet, the packages keep on coming…
